Hi my name is Leondre Ansah, I am currently a BA student and a up and coming artist from London who is tying to achieve a place in the world through my art which has led me here trying to sell my work.
Describe your process?
My practise is mainly digital but have always found myself moving back to the traditional printing process, This method is usually screen-printing as it complements my style and linework of my art. I also use this process because it beings a whole new physicality, deeper connection and ascetic to my work that you wont feel when making work digitally.
When i first started making prints i was in college, always experimenting but alot of my work came from images i had found or collaging images, textures in addition even some stencils. But after working with this process for so long i had fallen in love with it and i knew i would likely continue further into my practise into the future.
Alot of my digital work is also drawn so it starts as a illustration before it is put on a silkscreen ready for printing
Where did you learn to print?
Alot of the printing experience has came from college as the print rooms where underused, so i spent quite a significant amount of time in there exploring with methods and equipment. I have been reintroduced to the printing process in uni briefly a few times on small projects. I have also had some further mentoring late 2020 by a local artist in margate called Charlie Boyce when having a placement at Resort Studios preparing, organizing and curating my own exhibition for margatefestival curated by margatenow/peopledemcollective called Colour Blind. But as i am still in education i am always learning and continuing to improve my knowledge on the subject.
What inspires me?
My biggest inspiration is the world around me, culture, emotions. imagery and the general day to day always manages to spark my creativity and there is no way to get away from it because it is everywhere we look. Travelling to new places and seeing the world from other peoples perspective can also be mind-bending and thats an aspect i try to portray in some of my digital and print work.
What is your favorite piece?
My favourite piece i would say has got to be Chaos, it was originally a digital piece and depicts butterflies coming out of a boys chest/ribcage who struggles with mental health. It is my favorite because of the message/concept and the composition all to me pretty much fall in place. It also has the most sentimental value to me as a person and as an artist.
